about

Streets of Gold (REMIX)
Brother John sent me lyrics that he had written, and asked if I had any tracks that might fit. Coincidentally that very same day, as I was digging through my files of unfinished tracks, a homeless friend of ours, Peter Labriola (AKA Ace Backwords also an underground cartoonist ) posted a Facebook video of himself playing a lovely, etherial piece on an outdoor "free access" piano at the ASUC Student Union at 5:00 a.m.

John immediately realized that the music was a perfect fit for Streets of Gold and suggested that I capture the audio from Ace’s web post.

John and I edited Ace’s piano piece into versus and choruses and created the recording.

lyrics

Lyrics John H Seabury

From the bay to the mountains and everything between
The saddest thing I've ever seen is folks livin' on the streets of gold

No heart, no soul on the streets of gold
So hard, so cold, on the streets of gold

When I was a young boy I heard the story told
That when you get to heaven, the streets are paved with gold
Now that you can hear the other story that I tell
If you think this is heaven, you can go to hell

No heart, no soul on the streets of gold
So hard, so cold, on the streets of gold

People eating food the little piggies throw away
Begging on the sidewalks, pennies are their only pay
A caravan of shopping carts greets the foggy day…
And it gets darker every day.

No heart, no soul on the streets of gold
So hard, so cold, on the streets of gold

Meanwhile on the inside it's all fat and warm
Crackling logs and pure bred dogs while outside a raging storm
The gypsy shudders in a doorway waits for rain to pass
The gutters shine like diamonds But it's only broken glass

No heart, no soul on the streets of gold
So hard, so cold, on the streets of gold

"When you got nothin, you got nothin left to lose"
Is that a fact Bobby ?
Walk a mile in my wet shoes.

No heart, no soul on the streets of gold
So hard, so cold, on the streets of gold
